Arabic vocabulary
How to say “calmness” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
عَلَيْهِمْ مِنْهَا لِبَاسٌ يُعْرَفُونَ بِهِ مِنَ السَّكِينَةِ وَالْخُشُوعِ،
Upon them from it is a garment by which they are known for calmness and reverence.
السَّكِينَةِ — calmness. This is a definite noun carrying 'the', governed by the 'from' before it and so in the governed form. It names one of the inner qualities, calmness, that the garment consists of. The 'the' marks it as the known virtue rather than any calm.
