Arabic vocabulary
How to say “contend with me” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَاعْلَمْ أَنَّهُ مَنْ أَهَانَ لِي وَلِيًّا أَوْ أَخَافَهُ فَقَدْ بَارَزَنِي بِالْمُحَارَبَةِ وَبَارَانِي،
And know that whoever insults for me a close ally or frightens him, has thereby declared war against me and has contended with me.
وَبَارَانِي — and has contended with me. The wa- on the front is 'and', joining a second result verb, and -ni ('me') is fused to its end, so one word means 'and has contended with me'. The wa- links this consequence to the previous one, and the object pronoun is again the speaker. Together they double the declared outcome of the offence.
