Arabic vocabulary
How to say “waging war” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَاعْلَمْ أَنَّهُ مَنْ أَهَانَ لِي وَلِيًّا أَوْ أَخَافَهُ فَقَدْ بَارَزَنِي بِالْمُحَارَبَةِ وَبَارَانِي،
And know that whoever insults for me a close ally or frightens him, has thereby declared war against me and has contended with me.
بِالْمُحَارَبَةِ — by waging war. The bi- here is a preposition meaning 'by/with', marking the means of the fighting, and it governs the verbal noun it attaches to (an action named as a thing). So it reads 'by waging war'. The bi- assigns the instrumental 'by means of' role to the action-noun.
