Arabic vocabulary
How to say “know” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَاعْلَمْ أَنَّهُ مَنْ أَهَانَ لِي وَلِيًّا أَوْ أَخَافَهُ فَقَدْ بَارَزَنِي بِالْمُحَارَبَةِ وَبَارَانِي،
And know that whoever insults for me a close ally or frightens him, has thereby declared war against me and has contended with me.
وَاعْلَمْ — and know. This is a command verb, 'know', with the 'and' connector (wa-) fused to its front. The wa- links the instruction to the surrounding speech, and the imperative directs the listener to take the following statement seriously. So one word both connects and orders.
