قُلْتُ لَهُ وَلَا يَنْتَقِضُ هَذَا بِالْمُلُوكِ الظَّلَمَةِ الَّذِينَ مَكَّنَهُمُ اللَّهُ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَقْتًا مَا
I said to him, 'This is not refuted by the oppressive kings whom God empowered on the earth for a period of time.'
الْأَرْضِ — the earth. This noun carries 'the' and is governed by the preposition before it, taking the prepositional ending. It names the earth as the sphere of the kings' granted power.

وَالْأَرْضِ — and the earth. An 'and' fused to 'the earth', a second owning noun joined to the chain, 'and the earth'. It stands in the owner form, pairing earth with the heavens as what the oath is sworn by.
