وَكَمْ مِنْ كَلِمَةٍ تَدُورُ عَلَى الْأَلْسِنِ مَثَلًا جَاءَ الْقُرْآنُ بِالْخَصِّ مِنْهَا وَأَحْسَنَ

مَثَلًا — as an example. This is 'example, proverb' used adverbially, 'as a proverb'. The accusative ending is what lets a noun act in this describing, circumstantial role, telling in what capacity the saying goes around. Arabic uses this bare-accusative noun where English would say 'as a'.
