How to say “excuse” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَعُذْرُ مَنْ نَبَذَ الْوَحْيَيْنِ وَرَاءَ ظَهْرِهِ فِي يَوْمٍ لَا تَنْفَعُ الظَّالِمِينَ فِيهِ الْمَعَاذِرُ؟
And what excuse will the one who casts the two revelations behind his back have on a day when excuses will not benefit the wrongdoers?
وَعُذْرُ — and excuse. The wa- opens with 'and'. The noun, 'the excuse', heads a possessive pair with the relative clause after it, 'the excuse OF the one who...'. It is the topic of a second rhetorical question, set parallel to the earlier 'expectation'. As the front member it binds straight to what follows.
