How to say “the excuses” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَعُذْرُ مَنْ نَبَذَ الْوَحْيَيْنِ وَرَاءَ ظَهْرِهِ فِي يَوْمٍ لَا تَنْفَعُ الظَّالِمِينَ فِيهِ الْمَعَاذِرُ؟
And what excuse will the one who casts the two revelations behind his back have on a day when excuses will not benefit the wrongdoers?
الْمَعَاذِرُ — the excuses. A definite plural noun, 'the excuses', the delayed subject of 'do not benefit', the thing that will prove useless. With 'the', it points to excuses as a whole. Standing at the clause's end, it completes the verb-first sentence by naming who does the failing-to-help.
