  خَوْفُ — fear of. The same 'fear of' phrase as earlier, but here it is the subject that rose away, so it takes the '-u' ending instead of the genitive it had after 'from'. Watching the ending shift with the word's job is central to reading Arabic.

  خَوْفًا — in fear. This noun lacks 'the' and ends in the indefinite mark and the accusative, meaning 'out of fear'. Arabic uses this bare accusative to give the reason or motive of an action, where English would say 'in fear' or 'because of fear'.

  As for your deeds, they are not righteous, and your recitation is heavy, devoid of fear, sorrow, and apprehension.

  وَالْخَوْفِ — and apprehension. The conjunction adds a final coordinated genitive, fear, definite and genitive, closing the list. The shared genitive endings show all three qualities hang off the single 'devoid of' preposition.
