How to say “events” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
فاستوحش الصّديق من خوف الْحَوَادِث
Al-Siddiq felt uneasy due to fear of what might happen.
الْحَوَادِثِ — events. A broken plural, the singular's vowels recast to mean 'happenings/calamities'. It is the owner in 'fear of ___', so it takes the genitive, and its 'the' also makes the whole 'fear-of-the-events' phrase definite.
From: The Prophet's Refuge in the Cave →فاجعل لنفسك من الفكر مرآة ترى بها ما وراء الحوادث،
So make for yourself a mirror of thought through which you see what lies beyond events,
الْحَوَادِثِ — the incidents. The object of 'beyond', so it stands in the possessive case, with 'the' marking the known run of events. As a plural it gathers the happenings past which the wise one peers.
