Arabic vocabulary
How to say “for the Prophet” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَمَعِي إِدَاوَةٌ حَمَلْتُهَا لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَرْتَوِي مِنْهَا،
I had with me a waterskin that I had carried for the Prophet, may God send blessings and peace upon him, to drink from.
لِلنَّبِيِّ — for the Prophet. Preposition 'for' fused with a definite noun whose 'al-' (the) is also pulled in, so one chunk says 'for the Prophet'. The preposition forces that noun into the 'of'-style ending. It marks the Prophet as the one the waterskin was carried for.
