How to say “forgiveness” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ إنَّك لَوْ أتَيْتنِي بِقُرَابِ الْأَرْضِ خَطَايَا ثُمَّ لَقِيتنِي لَا تُشْرِكُ بِي شَيْئًا لَأَتَيْتُك بِقُرَابِهَا مَغْفِرَةً
O son of Adam! Were you to come to Me with sins nearly as great as the earth and were you then to face Me, not associating anything with Me, I would bring you forgiveness nearly as great as it.
مَغْفِرَةً — forgiveness. Like 'sins' earlier, this names what the matching measure consists of — forgiveness — and takes the -an ending for that role. The symmetry is the point: an earth-ful met by an earth-ful.
From: The Vastness of God's Mercy →وَهُوَ الْغَنِيُّ لِأَنَّ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى يَعِدُكُمْ مَغْفِرَةً وَفَضْلًا
And it is wealth because Allah the Exalted promises you forgiveness and bounty.
مَغْفِرَةً — forgiveness. This noun is the thing promised and so wears the object ending, marked by the doubled 'an' tail of an indefinite object. It is one of two gifts the verb hands to the 'you'.
