Arabic vocabulary
How to say “he washed” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
قَالَتْ فَفَعَلْنَا فَاغْتَسَلَ فَذَهَبَ لِيَنُوءَ فَأُغْمِيَ عَلَيْهِ،
She said, so we did; he washed, then he went to lie down, and he fainted.
فَاغْتَسَلَ — then he washed. This fa- chains the next action tightly to the last, 'then', marking immediate sequence in the narrative. The verb is a completed past with 'he' inside; the form is the reflexive wash-oneself pattern.
From: Prayer During Illness →قَالَ ضَعُوا لِيَّ مَاءً فِي الْمِخْضَبِ قَالَتْ فَقَعَدَ فَاغْتَسَلَ،
He said, "Put water for me in the basin." She said; then he sat down and washed himself.
فَاغْتَسَلَ — then he washed himself. Another sequencing fa-, 'then he washed himself'; the verb is the reflexive wash-oneself pattern, so the doing and the undergoing fall on the same person, expressed by the verb's shape rather than a separate 'himself'.
From: Prayer During Illness →فَقَعَدَ فَاغْتَسَلَ، ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ لِيَنُوءَ فَأُغْمِيَ عَلَيْهِ،
He sat down, washed himself, went to lie down, and fainted.
فَإِغْتَسَلَ — then he washed himself. A sequencing fa-, 'then he washed himself'; the reflexive wash-oneself pattern puts doer and undergoer on the same person through the verb's shape, not a separate 'himself'.
