  Then he said: O Allah, I ask you as Ibrahim and Ismail asked you, so direct the hearts of the people towards them.

  أَفْئِدَةً — hearts. The -an ending marks this as the direct object of 'make' and, with no al', as indefinite, 'hearts'. It is what God is asked to turn toward them.

  أَفْئِدَةُ — hearts of. This names the subject of 'incline' and so takes the -u ending; it then heads an 'of' chain with 'the people', 'hearts of the people'.

  Every time the hopes of my heart appear, the course of fate aligns with my desire.

  فُؤَادِي — of my heart. This noun closes the 'of' pairing begun by 'hopes': the two nouns stand directly together to mean 'hopes of the heart', and the attached -i then adds 'my'. Being the second, owning noun of such a pairing, it takes the -i ending Arabic uses for the possessor slot.
