How to say “love of” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
زين للناس حب الشهوات من النساء والبنين والقناطير المقنطرة من الذهب والفضة والخيل المسومة والأنعام والحرث فللشهوات حيلة غيار،
Beautified for people is the love of desires: from women and children, and heaped-up treasures of gold and silver, and branded horses, and cattle and tilled land; but desires have a deceptive strategy,
حُبُّ — the love of. This is the delayed subject of the passive verb above: it is the thing that was beautified, so it carries the subject ending even though it appears after the verb, which Arabic allows freely. It also heads a possessive pairing with the next word, meaning 'the love of...', so it links the feeling to its object.
