How to say “moderation” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَقَوْلُهُمْ الْحِمْيَةُ رَأْسُ الدَّوَاءِ، مَذْكُورٌ فِي قَوْلِهِ تَعَالَى وَكُلُوا وَاشْرَبُوا وَلَا تُسْرِفُوا
And their saying: 'Moderation is the best remedy' is mentioned in His saying: 'And eat and drink, but be not excessive.'
الْحِمْيَةُ — moderation. This is 'moderation, restraint', definite with 'al-', the subject of a verbless saying. With no verb 'is', it pairs directly with the description that follows: 'moderation is the head of remedy'. It takes the nominative as that subject.
