How to say “mountain” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
فَإِنْحَدَرَتْ صَخْرَةٌ مِّنَ الْجَبَلِ
Then a rock slid down from the mountain.
الْجَبَلِ — the mountain. A noun made definite by the prefixed 'the' and held in the genitive by the preposition before it. It names the specific place the rock fell from, the 'the' marking it as a known landmark in the scene.
From: Trapped and Delivered →قَالَ فَارِمْ بِنَفْسِكَ مِنْ هَذَا الْجَبَلِ
He said, 'Then throw yourself from this mountain.'
الْجَبَلِ — the mountain. A noun made definite by the al- prefix, carrying the genitive ending because the preposition 'from' governs it. The demonstrative before it and this noun work as a unit, 'this mountain', the genitive showing it is the object the preposition reaches.
