Arabic vocabulary
How to say “night” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول انطلق ثلاثة نفر ممن كان قبلكم حتى آواهم المبيت إلى غار فدخلوه،
I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, say: 'Three men from those before you set out, and night forced them to take shelter in a cave. They entered it.'
الْمَبِيتُ — the night. This noun is the subject of the previous verb, the thing doing the forcing, so it carries the plain (nominative) ending and follows its verb in the usual Arabic order. It personifies nightfall as the agent that drove the men into the cave.
