مَا علمت أَن أحدا سمع بِالْجنَّةِ وَالنَّار تَأتي عَلَيْهِ سَاعَة لَا يُطِيع الله فِيهَا بذكرا وَصَلَاة أَو قراة أَو إِحْسَان
I have not known anyone who has heard of Paradise and Hell to have an hour pass without obeying God through remembrance, prayer, reading, or charity.
يُطِيعُ — obeying. A present verb, 'he obeys', subject built in. Negated just before, it means 'he does not obey', and the whole forms the relative description of that hour.
From: Contentment with What God Wills →والضعيف فيكم القوي عندي حتى آخذ له الحق، أطيعوني ما أطعت الله فإذا عصيت الله فلا طاعة لي عليكم
And the weak among you is strong to me until I take his right for him. Obey me as long as I obey Allah. If I disobey Allah, then you owe me no obedience.
أَطِيعُونِي — Obey me. A plural command, 'obey me', with the attached -ni (me) as its object; the plural ending shows it is addressed to the whole audience. It opens the conditional pledge that follows.
From: Obedience to God and Authority →والضعيف فيكم القوي عندي حتى آخذ له الحق، أطيعوني ما أطعت الله فإذا عصيت الله فلا طاعة لي عليكم
And the weak among you is strong to me until I take his right for him. Obey me as long as I obey Allah. If I disobey Allah, then you owe me no obedience.
أَطَعْتُ — I obey. A past-tense verb carrying its 'I' subject in the ending; under the 'as long as' before it, the past form expresses an ongoing condition, 'as long as I keep obeying'. The ending is what marks the speaker as the doer.
