Arabic vocabulary
How to say “obey” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
ومن بايع إماماً فأعطاه صفقة يده، وثمرة قلبه، فليطعه إن استطاع،
And whoever gives allegiance to an Imam, giving him a handshake and sincerity of his heart, let him obey him if he is able,
فَلْيُطِعْهُ — let him obey him. This stacks fa- (so) with the command-marker li- on a verb plus 'him' attached, 'so let him obey him', the li- making a third-person 'let him...' command and forcing the verb into the clipped jussive ending. The suffix marks the leader as the one to be obeyed, completing the conditional's result.
