Arabic vocabulary
How to say “pledge allegiance” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
ومن بايع إماماً فأعطاه صفقة يده، وثمرة قلبه، فليطعه إن استطاع،
And whoever gives allegiance to an Imam, giving him a handshake and sincerity of his heart, let him obey him if he is able,
بَايَعَ — gives allegiance. A past-tense verb in the mutual pattern, 'he pledged allegiance', with 'he' built in, serving as the condition tied to 'whoever'. The reciprocal pattern fits a two-sided pledge between the giver and the leader; in this conditional frame the past shape reads generally.
