How to say “praised” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فقال إذا قال العبد ﴿الحمد لله رب العالمين﴾ قال الله حمدني عبدي، فإذا قال ﴿الرحمن الرحيم﴾ قال أثنى علي عبدي،
He said: When the servant says, "Praise be to God, Lord of the worlds," God says, "My servant has praised Me." And when he says, "The Most Gracious, the Most Merciful," God says, "My servant has praised Me."
أَثْنَىٰ — praised. A past-tense verb 'praised / extolled', with its third-person subject built into the form. It belongs to a class of verbs ending in a long vowel, which is why its final shape looks different from a regular verb, but its job here is simply the divine reply 'he extolled Me'.
