وَلَمَّا كَانَ طَالِبُ الصِّرَاطِ الْمُسْتَقِيمِ طَالِبَ أَمْرٍ أَكْثَرُ النَّاسِ نَاكِبُونَ عَنْهُ،
And when the seeker of the straight path was a seeker of a matter from which most people turn away,
طَالِبُ — seeker. An active participle used as a noun, 'the seeker', and the subject of 'was'; its ending marks that subject role. It heads a possessive pair with the following noun, 'the seeker OF the path'. The participle names a type of person as a standing description.
