وَلَمَّا كَانَ طَالِبُ الصِّرَاطِ الْمُسْتَقِيمِ طَالِبَ أَمْرٍ أَكْثَرُ النَّاسِ نَاكِبُونَ عَنْهُ،
And when the seeker of the straight path was a seeker of a matter from which most people turn away,
نَاكِبُونَ — turn away. A sound masculine plural participle, 'turning aside / shunning', used as the predicate of the descriptive clause, 'most people ARE turning away from it'. Its plural shape agrees with 'most of the people'. It casts the majority as habitually avoiding the path.
