How to say “sermon” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
وَإِنْتَظَمَ أَوَائِلُ الْآيَاتِ الْمَقْرُوءَاتِ فِي أَثْنَاءِ خُطْبَتِهِ،
The openings of the recited verses fell into place during his sermon.
خُطْبَتِهِ — his sermon. A noun 'sermon' with the 'his' suffix attached, the owning term completing 'the course of his sermon', hence the genitive. The possessor points to the imam; the attached pronoun makes the noun definite. It closes the time-construct.
From: Public Preaching →وَيُورِدُ الْخُطْبَةَ الْغِرَاءَ بِهَا عَجَلًا
And he quickly delivers the eloquent sermon with it.
الْخُطْبَةَ — the sermon. This is a feminine noun carrying the al- 'the', so it is fully definite. It is the thing being delivered, the direct object of the verb just before it, and its accusative ending (the -a) is the quiet signal that marks it as the target of the action rather than the doer.
