Arabic vocabulary
How to say “the anecdotes” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَعَنْ الأَصْمَعِيِّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الرَّشِيدَ يَقُولُ النَّوَادِرُ تَشْحَذُ الأَذْهَانَ وَتَفْتُقُ الآذَانَ
And from al-Asma'i: I heard al-Rashid say, "Anecdotes sharpen minds and quicken ears."
النَّوَادِرُ — anecdotes. The al- makes this plural definite, 'the' anecdotes, the known kind. It stands as the doer of the two verbs that follow, so it serves as the subject of 'sharpen' and 'quicken'.
