How to say “the shepherd” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
كَمَا يَذُودُ الرَّاعِيُ الشَّفِيقُ غَنَمَهُ عَنْ مَرَاتِعِ الْهَلَكَةِ
Just as the compassionate shepherd wards his flock away from pastures of destruction.
الْرَاعِيُ — the shepherd. This is a definite noun carrying 'the', and it is the doer of the warding verb before it, sitting after its verb in the verb-first arrangement. Its subject-form ending marks it as the one acting. It is the shepherd at the centre of the simile.
