How to say “to give birth” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَقَوْلُهُمْ لَا تَلِدُ الْحَيَّةُ إِلَّا حَيَّةً، مَذْكُورٌ فِي قَوْلِهِ تَعَالَى وَلَا يَلِدُوا إِلَّا فَاجِرًا كَفَّارًا
And their saying: 'A snake gives birth only to a snake' is mentioned in His saying: 'And they will not give birth except to a disobedient, disbeliever.'
يَلِدُوا — give birth. Present-tense plural 'they give birth, beget', the 'they' subject in the ending, here read as a future under the negation, 'they will not beget'. The plural doer is folded into the verb. It governs the exception phrase that follows.
