Arabic vocabulary
How to say “to recompense” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَقَوْلُهُمْ مَا تَزْرَعْ تَحْصِدْ، مَذْكُورٌ فِي قَوْلِهِ تَعَالَى مَنْ يَعْمَلْ سُوءًا يُجْزَ بِهِ
And their saying: 'What you sow, you reap' is mentioned in His saying: 'Whoever does evil will be recompensed for it.'
يُجْزَ — will be recompensed. This is a passive verb, 'he will be recompensed', the doer unstated and the subject instead undergoing the action, recompense falls on him. Arabic marks the passive by changing the vowels inside the verb rather than adding a helper word. Its clipped jussive ending also marks it as the result half of the condition.
