How to say “to rest” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَأَسْنَدَ رُكْبَتَيْهِ إلَى رُكْبَتَيْهِ، وَوَضَعَ كَفَّيْهِ عَلَى فَخِذَيْهِ، وَقَالَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ أَخْبِرْنِي عَنْ الْإِسْلَامِ
He rested his knees against his knees and placed his hands on his thighs, and said: 'O Muhammad, tell me about Islam.'
فَأَسْنَدَ — he rested. A fa- meaning 'then / so' fused to a past-tense verb 'rested / propped', moving the narrative to the man's action. Its 'he' subject is understood from the preceding clause: the stranger.
