  As long as it does not lead him to dismiss command and prohibition, reward and punishment, promise and warning.

  وَالْوَعِيدِ — and warning. The threat half of that final pair, closing the genitive run. wa'd is the good promise, wa'id the warning of punishment — same root, opposite directions.

  وَعِيدٌ — and a threat. A bare indefinite noun, 'a threat/warning', the delayed subject of 'there has come a warning'. Arabic puts the verb first and lets this indefinite noun follow as what came.

• وَهَذَا الْمُعَثِّرُ يُسْمِعُ الآلَافَ مِنَ الْحُدَّاثِ فِيهَا الْوَعِيدَ وَالتَّهْدِيدَ،

  And this one who causes others to stumble makes thousands of youths hear the warning and the threat contained in it.

  الْوَعِيدَ — the warning. A definite noun with al- ('the warning'), serving as the second object of the causative verb, the thing the crowd is made to hear. It is what is contained 'in it', one of the two contents named.
