Arabic vocabulary
How to say “abundance” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
وَقَدْ اِسْتَحْيَيْتُ مِنَ اللَّهِ مِنْ كَثْرَةِ مَا أَسْأَلُهُ
And indeed I felt ashamed before Allah because of how often I asked Him.
كَثْرَةِ — the frequency. A noun 'abundance/frequency' heading a possessive chain that leans on what follows, giving 'the great amount of...'. It is in the genitive after the causal 'from' and owns the clause that comes next as the thing there was much of.
From: Silence and Supplication →لِكَثْرَةِ دَوْرِ ذَلِكَ فَتَرَاهُ إِمَّا يَكْتُبُ الأَسْمَاءَ حَالَ السَّمَاعِ ،
Because that happens so often, you will then see him either write the names at the moment of hearing.
لِكَثْرَةِ — because of the frequency of. The prefix li- here is causal, 'because of / owing to', heading a verbal noun for 'frequency / muchness' that then opens a possessive chain with the next word. The preposition forces the 'of'-style ending; together they begin 'because of the frequency of...', giving the reason for what follows.
From: Humility Over Fame →أَوْ يَتَخَلَّصَ مِنْ بَأْسِ اللَّهِ بِكَثْرَةِ الْبُحُوثِ وَالْجِدَالِ،
Or will he escape from the punishment of God by many debates and arguments?
بِكَثْرَةِ — by many. This is the preposition bi- ('by means of') fused to a noun, and it heads a possessive pair, 'by the abundance OF debates'. The bi- marks the means he leans on, the sheer volume of argument he hopes will rescue him. It governs the noun in the genitive.
From: Ignoring God's Guidance →وَلَا تَغْتَرَّ بِكَثْرَةِ الْهَالِكِينَ،
Do not be deceived by the great number of those who are perishing.
بِكَثْرَةِ — by the great number of. The bi- marks the supposed cause of the deception ('by the great number'); it points to what might delude you. The noun it rides is 'abundance' and heads an 'of' pairing with the perishing ones named next. So bi- governs that whole 'multitude of...' phrase into the genitive and ties it to the warning verb.
