Arabic vocabulary
How to say “advance” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم لا يقدمن أحد منكم إلى شيء حتى أكون أنا دونه
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'None of you should advance towards anything until I am ahead of him.'
يُقَدِّمَنَّ — should advance. A present-tense verb in the intensive pattern with the heavy emphatic ending attached, so it means 'shall by no means advance'. That doubled ending is a stress device Arabic adds to drive home a command or ban; here it turns 'do not advance' into a forceful 'let no one dare advance'.
