How to say “Al-Jilani” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
ومتى كان الواعظ مثل الحسين والشيخ عبد القادر الجيلاني رحمهما الله تعالى انتفع به الناس
And when the preacher is like Al-Husayn and Sheikh Abdul Qadir Al-Jilani - may Allah have mercy on them - people benefit from him.
الْجِيلَانِيّ — Al-Jilani. This is a belonging-adjective (a 'nisba'), formed by adding a final '-i' to a place or ancestor name to mean 'the one from Jilan'. Arabic makes such origin-words by tacking this ending on, and they then trail the name as a defining label of lineage or homeland.
