وَأَعْرَضَتْ عَنْ جَمِيعِ شَهْوَاتِهَا،
And she turned away from all her desires,
جَمِيعِ — all. This word, 'all / the whole of', opens an owner-and-owned pairing with the desires-word after it, meaning 'all of her desires'. As the first half it stays bare and sits in the genitive because the 'from' before it governs it. Arabic expresses 'all the X' by setting this word in front of X in such a pairing.
From: Honoring Parents →وَتَابَ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى جَمِيعِ الْمُذْنِبِينَ
May He accept our repentance and the repentance of all sinners.
جَمِيعِ — all. A quantifying noun, 'all', that heads a possessive pairing with 'the sinners', giving 'all of the sinners'. Governed by the preceding 'upon', it takes the 'of' (genitive) ending, and as the head of the pairing it draws its definiteness from the noun it quantifies.
From: The Four Inner Guards →مَا أَحَدُ مِمَّنِ رَوَيْتُ عَنْهُ هُوَ أَفْضَلُ مِنْ جَمِيعِ أَهْلِ زَمَانُنَا،
There is no one among those I narrated from who is better than all the people of our time.
جَمِيعِ — all. A 'whole / all' word heading an ownership pairing with the next noun, 'all of the people'. As the lead of that chain it sits in the genitive after the 'than' preposition and bonds to the following noun for its meaning.
