طِينِ — the clay. 'tin' = 'clay'; first half of an 'of' phrase: 'the clay of...'.
From: On Sincerity →وقال إبليس هذا طين وأصل الطين خسيس،
And Iblis said, "This is clay, and the essence of clay is lowly."
طِينٌ — clay. This indefinite noun is what is said about 'this', the predicate, in the plain subject ending. Arabic joins the topic and description with no separate 'is', so the bare noun completes 'this is clay'.

And Iblis said, "This is clay, and the essence of clay is lowly."
الطِّينِ — of clay. The owner half of the possessive pair, definite and in the 'of' ending right after 'essence'. The pairing makes 'essence of clay', naming what the essence belongs to.
