الشُّيُوخِ — elders. A broken-plural noun with al- 'the', definite, 'the elders/shaykhs', the owning half of 'the ignorant of the elders'. Only this final noun keeps its 'the', spreading definiteness across the pairing. As the possessor it takes the genitive ('of') ending.
