وَتَكْثِيرِ — and increasing. The connector wa- 'and' joins a second action-noun 'multiplying/piling up', continuing the list of their concerns. The wa- coordinates this with 'listening' as another object of their ambition. The action-noun names the activity of running up numbers as a thing, here governed in the genitive by the earlier 'in'.
