Arabic vocabulary
How to say “fill” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
وقلبٌ قد امتلأ من جلال الله ﷿ وعظمته، ومحبته ومراقبته، والحياء منه،
And a heart filled with the majesty and greatness of Allah, love for Him, awareness of Him, and shyness before Him,
امْتَلَأَ — it filled. A past-tense reflexive-shape verb 'became filled', subject 'it' inside. The shape gives the intransitive 'filled up' sense, the heart filling rather than being filled by a named agent.
From: Repelling the Devil →ولا تدخل الحكمة معدة ملئت طعاما،
Wisdom does not enter a stomach that is full of food.
مُلِئَتْ — was filled. This verb is passive: the stomach is filled by something, it does not fill itself. Arabic shows the passive through the inner vowel pattern, and the feminine ending agrees with 'stomach'. The clause describes the stomach as one that has been filled.
