Arabic vocabulary
How to say “flowing” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
كما يقال ماء جار ورجل ميت وإن لم يفعل الموت بل لما قام به من الموت نسب إليه على جهة الفعل
Just as it is said, 'flowing water' and 'a dead man,' even if he did not cause death but because death occurred in him, he is attributed as the doer of the action.
جَارٍ — flowing. An active participle 'flowing' used as an adjective, agreeing with 'water' as indefinite; the weak final letter hides its ending. It looks like a doer-noun, illustrating how such forms attach a quality to a noun.
