How to say “group” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
فَحِزْبٌ فِيهِ عَائِشَةُ وَحَفْصَةُ وَصَفِيَّةُ وَسَوْدَةُ،
One group in it consisted of Aisha, Hafsa, Safiyya, and Sawda.
فَحِزْبٌ — so one group. The fa- on the front continues the account with a light 'so', marking this clause as the next step that lays out the two groups. Attached to an indefinite noun, the prefix chains the sentence on while the noun, left without 'the', introduces one of the parties for the first time.
From: Wives of the Prophet →وَالْحِزْبُ الْآخَرُ أُمُّ سَلَمَةُ وَسَائِرُ نِسَاءِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ،
And the other group was Umm Salama and the remaining wives of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
وَالْحِزْبُ — and the group. Here the wa- opens a new clause that contrasts this group with the first, glued to a noun carrying 'the'. The prefix links the two halves of the account, while the definite article marks the group as the already-known second party.
