قَالَ فَجَعَلَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ يُصَلِّي وَهُوَ يَأْتَمُّ بِصَلَاةِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ
He said: Abu Bakr then led the prayer while following the Prophet's prayer.
يَأْتَمُّ — he follows. A present-tense verb, 'he follows/takes as model', with 'he' inside; it states the simultaneous condition introduced by the circumstance 'while'. It leads into the phrase naming whose lead he follows.
