How to say “he prevented them” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَمَنَعَهُمْ مِنَ الاِسْتِصْبَاحِ فِي اللَّيْلَةِ الْقَابِلَةِ، فَعَمَدَ الْفَضْلُ إِلَى الْقُمْقُمِْ مَمْلُوءٍ،
So he prevented them from having a light on the following night, and so al-Fadl reached toward the flask full of water.
فَمَنْعُهُمْ — so he prevented them. The front fa- gives a 'so then' consequence force, and the past verb under it has the plural 'them' object suffixed onto its end. So connector, verb, and object ride in one word. The -hum here is plural 'them', widening from the earlier pair to the prisoners as a group.
