الْبَاطِنَةِ — hidden. An adjective made definite by al- to agree with its definite noun 'the inner states', meaning 'the hidden'. It trails its noun and copies its article, gender, and genitive ending, binding 'hidden' to 'inner states'.
From: Preparing for Judgment Day →فصل وَهَذِه الْأَعْمَال الْبَاطِنَة كمحبة الله وَالْإِخْلَاص لَهُ والتوكل عَلَيْهِ وَالرِّضَا عَنهُ وَنَحْو ذَلِك كلهَا مَأْمُور بهَا فِي حق الْخَاصَّة والعامة
Section: These inner actions — such as love of Allah, sincerity to Him, reliance upon Him, and contentment with Him, and the like — are all commanded for both the elite and the common people.
البَاطِنَةُ — the internal. Adjective, 'the inner/hidden', describing 'the actions'. In Arabic the adjective follows its noun and copies its definiteness, gender, and number, so it carries its own 'the' to match the definite plural noun before it.
