How to say “honor” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
كل المسلم على المسلم حرام دمه، وعرضه، وماله،
All of a Muslim is sacred to another Muslim: his blood, his honor, and his wealth.
وَعِرْضُهُ — his honor. This is wa- (and) on 'honor' with 'his' attached, continuing the list. The suffix marks the same owner, and the noun stands in the same form as the others in the run, agreement that signals they belong to one series.
From: Avoid Envy and Suspicion →فَمن اتَّقى الشُّبُهَات اسْتَبْرَأَ لعرضه وَدينه
Whoever avoids the ambiguous matters clears himself regarding his religion and honor.
لِعِرْضِهِ — for his honor. A short prefix meaning 'for/regarding' attaches directly to the noun and forces it into the possessed, owned form, and onto that noun is stuck a final 'his'. So one written word carries preposition, noun, and possessor together, pointing back to the man being described.
