How to say “make” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
وَإِذا أنسوا بأحبابهم فَاجْعَلْ أنسك بِاللَّه
If they find comfort in their loved ones, make your comfort in God.
فَاجْعَلْ — so make. The command 'make/place', a verb that takes two objects, setting one thing as another. Here it will make 'your comfort' rest 'in God'; the bare ending is the imperative shape.
From: Contentment with What God Wills →فَقَالَتِ اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلِ ابْنِي مِثْلَهُ فَتَرَكَ ثَدْيَهَا،
She said, "O Allah, make my son like him." Then he left her breast,
إِجْعَلْ — make. A bare command-form verb, 'make', here aimed at God as a plea rather than an order. The command shape strips the verb to its shortest form; in prayer it carries the sense 'please make'.
From: Those Who Spoke in the Cradle →فَقَالَ اللَّهُمَّ اِجْعَلْنِي مِثْلَهَا
Then he said, "O Allah, make me like her."
اِجْعَلْنِي — make me. A bare command-form 'make' aimed at God as a plea, with '-ni' (me) attached. The command shape strips the verb down; the suffix turns the prayer onto himself -- make ME (like her).
From: Those Who Spoke in the Cradle →وَاِجْعَلْنِي رَفِيقًا لَهُمْ وَمَعَهُمْ
Make me a companion to them and let me be with them.
وَاِجْعَلْنِي — and make me. The wa- joins another petition, and the verb it carries is a command 'make/render' with the object -ni ('me') on the end (with the cushioning -n-). So one word is 'and make me'. This verb expects a second complement, the role to make me into, which follows.
From: Choosing Good Companions →وَاجْعَلْ لَنَا بَيْتًا مَحْجُوجًا وَحَرَمًا آمِنًا،
And make for us a well-protected house and a safe sanctuary,
وَاجْعَلْ — and make. Front wa- is the joiner 'and'; the rest is a command-form verb, the shape used to make a request or order ('make!'). In a prayer this command directed at God works as a plea, and the addressee 'You' is built into the verb shape itself.
