How to say “meal/invitation” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
كنا مع رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم في دعوة، فرفع إليه الذراع، وكانت تعجبه،
We were with the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, at a meal where a foreleg was presented to him, which he liked.
دَعْوَةٍ — a meal. An indefinite noun (it carries the -in tanwin, not al-) in the genitive after the preposition before it. Its indefiniteness presents the occasion as an unspecified one, and the genitive ending is forced by the 'at' preposition governing it.
