How to say “nation” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
والنبي وليس معه أحد إذ رفع لي سواد عظيم فظننت أنهم أمتي،
and a prophet with nobody with him until a vast multitude was raised for me, and I thought it was my nation,
أُمَّتِي — my nation. This is the predicate of the 'that'-clause — 'my nation', with attached 'my' — in the nominative (the 'anna' bends the subject, not the predicate). So he supposed the great throng to be his own community. The pronoun ties the nation to him.
