How to say “poor” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فقراء المهاجرين أتوا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم فقالوا ذهب أهل الدثور بالدرجات العلى، والنعيم المقيم
The poor among the emigrants came to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, and said: 'The wealthy have taken the highest ranks and everlasting blessings.'
فَقَرَاءُ — the poor. This is a broken plural ('the poor'), reshaped from its singular, and a 'diptote' that drops nunation, so its ending stays bare. It is the nominative subject and heads a possessive — 'the poor OF the emigrants'. So it owns the noun to come.
