فقال النبي ﷺ فقهوا أخاكم في دينه، وأقرئوه القرآن وأطلقوا له أسيره ففعلوا
Then the Prophet ﷺ said: Educate your brother in his religion, teach him the Quran, and release his captive, and they did so.
دِينِهِ — his religion. din means 'religion'; the ending '-hi' adds 'his' — 'his religion'.

الدِّينِ — religion. 'religion,' in the -i form — the first of the five essentials, listed in apposition to 'five.' The five are spelled out one by one, each joined by 'and' and each in the -i form.

If you see the preacher desiring worldly life and lacking religious commitment,
الدِّينِ — religious commitment. This completes 'scant of religion', so it sits in the genitive as the thing he is short on. Pairing an adjective of deficiency with a following genitive noun is Arabic's compact way of saying 'lacking in religion' without a preposition. It is definite.

All of religion is contained in worship.
الْدِّينِ — the religion. A definite noun 'the religion' serving as the subject of the sentence. It is what the statement is about, and the totality-word right after it will stress that the claim covers the whole of it.

Thus, the religion of God is His worship, His obedience, and submission to Him.
فَدِينُ — so religion. A concluding 'so/thus' fused to a noun 'religion' that opens a possessive pair. The 'so' draws the conclusion, and the noun, as owner-side, leads into 'the religion of God', taking the following name to complete it.
